Welcome to ProjectVisionary news and commentary. While reviewing a few solution options for a customer I ventured across a rather nifty news publication open-source solution. I was so intregued with it I thought I would integrate it into this version of the ProjectVisionary.Com web site.I was tasked with providing a means to provide news updates to a site. The requirements were that the user experience should be no more difficult than posting an e-mail. I began my search as usual with a trip to sourceforge.net then little Google and a dash of Bing. The result was a little unsung hero hiding in the midst of the more sophisticated. I tend to prefer ‘simple’ solutions that do their job very well, usually one job very well. The tool, a simple PHP software application called Phpns crafted by Alec Henriksen. This little gem does the job it was designed to do very well. Specifically post articles to a web site just as I am doing here. Alec put together a nice little admin panel that offers just the right amount of features to neatly organize the articles, keep track of authors and articles and the typical add a user and give them rights routine. I have yet to have the time to dig into the XML/RSS/Atom portion of this jewel. But you can bet that I will get around to it in fairly short order. You can expect a follow up on those features later.
